the Stuart little philosophy...

I have sort of always been conditioned to think that all the difficult questions in life have complex answers..
Why are we here?
Who am i?
Why is there so much evil? etc...

after a while these questions and answers get boring.
May be it is the complexity that drives me away. I don't know. You see right here is an example, i can't find the answer as to why they get boring after a while...
Being in this state if you do find an answer to one major complex problem in the most unlikely place imaginable from the mouth of the most unlikely creature, now that's what i call interesting...
I was watching this movie 'Stuart little 2' with my daughter for the nth time. It is a kind of cute movie but .... well.... it is a kid's movie. So i can't expect much out of it. Never paid close attention to dialogues. But yesterday i did and look what i found...

A quick story line here..
(Stuart, the talking mouse is adopted by a human family, the Littles. Stuart makes friends with a small talking bird, Margalo who he believes is in the clutches of the evil Falcon. So he goes in search of the li'l birdie to save her. Snowbell, the smart-ass house cat reluctantly agrees to accompany him on this quest to find the bird.)

the scene...
Snowbell and Stuart have been searching for hours now with no sign of Margalo so Snowbell
says

"Give up Stuart. You know giving up is a good thing. If more people gave up there'll be fewer wars"

I tell you it was a sit-down-and-think kind of statement.
What a simple solution for the wars here. Just give up. I have always associated 'giving up' to being negative. But if people stop resisting certain things then maybe there'll be fewer struggles. Something else struck me too.... The answers can be simple. Utterly utterly simple.

Well the problem is that both parties wouldn't give up, so the party that did give up would be the one that lost.

Anyway I use to ask a lot of questions up until a few years - the complex type - and then I asked myself if I really needed to have the answers - not just wanted but needed. And surprisingly to that question I had an answer and it was NO. So I don't ask those questions anymore. I mean I do, it's only human nature but I don't feel unhappy but not having answers.

I can though imagine the feeling of the movie hitting you. Sometimes it is so shocking to find deep wisdom in a place you never expected. The wisdom doesn't 'hit' you as much as where it came from.

@ pri: whoa! u got me all wrong. I'm a big cartoon fan myself. Just that as much interesting as it can get... it can also get a bit too 'preachy', predictable ends etc.. In lion king i've sometimes felt pity for the villain lion. Dunno about you! Anyway didn't expect to find a simple solution for the 'wars' not a topic for kids generally...

@ deepali: ur logic is right. mmmm both the parties shud get this whiff of wisdom at the exact same moment! highly unlikely i know but dream on. ;)

@solitaire: You betcha!

@prabhu: Super. More BMWs on the road ;) ok on a serious note there are a few wars worth giving up. Mujahideen's can give up, KKK can give up, our own caste wars could be given up.... these things started because of the hype we had given to martyrdom. If ppl had propogated the benefits of 'giving up' there might be more peace on this world... Now the whole thing has got complex isn't it! Man!

this is a concept that is not inculcated in any being - giving up - you are right - the answers are all there and simple - but we dont have the capacity of acknowleding it.....

dunno if it makes sense - but this was my interpretation of the movie "fanaa" - where she has to give up her love by killing him in the end - this was needed to be done to end the conflict in the guys mind and liberate him - concept of giving up someone you love dearly....

@ ceedy: maybe. I hvn't seen the movie. So, dunno. Good that u agree most ppl seem to resist this. Don't u think it wud've been better if the guy had gvn up! that woudve been a super-duper win-win situation ! :)

Hi Dear tell you what if i have used the stuart lil philosophy i would have saved some money in vegas by now :) Well its not so bad i lost $600 in blackjack but am making amends for it in Poker so far gotten $450 back.

Neways am not the giving up kind :) My 2 cents is its not about giving up which will be the answer to most problems its about beng open minded and seeing the broader picture in life that will solve most problems..no matter how complex or how simple the problem may be think about it. Hope u r havin fun in cali ttyl.
